Help us keep your heart here.
Today, doctors can stop a heart attack in its tracks in Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s Cardiac Cath Lab. But after more than a decade of supporting lifesaving treatment, the hospital’s two Cath Lab suites must be replaced.
Without the Lab, patients from across our region might have to travel as far away as Kingston or Toronto at a time when every second counts.
Every year, thousands of patients from across Peterborough and the surrounding region are brought to the Cath Lab for lifesaving minimally invasive cardiac stenting and diagnosis.
Patients come from as far away as Durham, North Hastings, Northumberland and the City of Kawartha Lakes. In fact, up to 600,000 people in Peterborough and the central eastern region of Ontario rely on the Cath Lab for lifesaving urgent and non-emergency cardiac services.
In a typical year, PRHC’s cardiac care team performs almost 3,000 cardiac procedures. In 2020/21, 1,719 of these procedures took place in the Cath Lab, 810 requiring a stent – 202 of those while a heart attack was taking place as part of PRHC’s Code STEMI partnership.
Now we need your help. The Cath Lab must be replaced and upgraded.
And replacing the Lab now won’t just keep cardiac care close by. Advances in technology mean better picture quality and resolution during procedures, lower radiation exposure, and shorter procedure times.
