Cancer Care

Ensuring care for more patients with more types of cancer – supporting earlier diagnosis, and safer, more effective expert treatment.

There are few things in life as terrifying as hearing, “you have cancer.” Those three little words change everything, and the number of people diagnosed with cancer is increasing in Canada each year, a trend that is expected to continue. In our region, the number of cancer patients who access their care at PRHC has grown significantly: last year there were over 23,000 patient visits to the Cancer Clinic.

With the rising number of new cancer cases, there will be a corresponding increase in the need for primary prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and support services, including palliative care.

To ensure that residents in our region continue to have access to advanced, personalized, expert, compassionate cancer care close to home, the PRHC Foundation is committed to funding tools and technology that form the foundation of cancer care today and for the future. These include new innovations that will increase the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and treatment such as breast seed localization and digital pathology, as well as the expansion of pediatric cancer care.
