Give a Gift of RRSPs or RRIFs

Donating RRSP or RRIF funds benefits you and the charity.

Retirement funds can be the most heavily taxed assets you own. Registered assets can only be rolled over to a surviving spouse but are taxed if they’re transferred to children or next of kin, unless a child has a disability.

By donating your RRSP or RRIF funds to a charity, you’ll retain ownership and use of the fund during your lifetime, receive a tax receipt for the value of the plan, avoid probate fees by removing these assets from your estate, and reduce your overall estate taxes. You can choose to donate all or a portion of your retirement funds, and still provide for your family by naming more than one beneficiary.

Making a gift of RRSPs or RRIFs is a simple process.

To make a gift of RRSPs or RRIFs, request a change of multiple beneficiary form from your plan provider and change the beneficiary information on the document to include Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation. Once you’ve returned the plan document to your plan provider, please contact us to let us know about your gift so we can thank you.

Talk to your family, talk to your advisors and when you’re ready, talk to us. We’re here to help! For more information, please contact Lesley Heighway, President & CEO, at 705-743-2121, ext. 3859 or send her an email.

Always consult a professional financial advisor to discuss the best charitable giving options for you.
