PRHC Foundation Monthly Giving Ambassador, Susan Dunkley, explains why she decided to become a monthly donor:
I’m not a doctor, I don’t wear a lab coat. I don’t check pulses or read charts. I don’t scrub in, administer medication, or diagnose a thing. But each and every month, our hospital relies on me to help save lives.
I’m proud to be a monthly donor to Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation. You see, PRHC is more than just a hospital to me—it’s woven into the fabric of my family’s story.
It’s where both of my sons were born. It’s where we went to the emergency room for countless stitches and sprains when they were young. It’s where my husband Darryl spent four terrifying months battling COVID—months that were made bearable by the compassion of extraordinary caregivers. Where we said goodbye to his father and brother, and where I lost my best friend—all of them surrounded by love and dignity in palliative care.
I’ve experienced the full spectrum of emotions inside these walls: joy, fear, heartbreak, and hope. Through it all, PRHC has been a constant—a lifeline when I needed it most. That’s why I signed up to be a monthly donor—because just like our hospital, monthly giving never takes a day off. PRHC is there for our community every single day, often on our hardest days, and I want to make sure it always can be.
