Celebrating the generosity of Canadians who give through donor-advised funds (DAFs)

Donor-advised funds have become an important part of charitable giving in Canada. More than 55,000 DAF accounts exist in Canada and Canadians have used them to set aside more than $17 billion for charity.

October 8, 2026, is DAF Day, a national day celebrating the generosity of Canadians who give through donor-advised funds.

So, what exactly is a DAF?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a flexible way to organize charitable giving. Donors can create and contribute to their own fund, then recommend grants to charities they want to support over time. DAFs can also be a meaningful way for families to plan and participate in philanthropy together.

For donors who have a DAF, recommending a grant is one way to put their charitable intentions into action and support the causes and communities that matter most to them.

At PRHC Foundation, we see every day how our regional community comes together to help ensure everyone has access to exceptional care, close to home. Through the $70 million Campaign for PRHC, donors are helping bring state-of-the-art technology, equipment and innovation to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, supporting the doctors, nurses and staff who care for our family, friends and neighbours.

From innovation in our operating rooms and lifesaving services in the Cardiac Cath Lab, to essential equipment supporting the Emergency Department, NICU and Nutrition Services, philanthropy is helping make an impact across the Health Centre.

And it’s all made possible by the generosity of people in our regional community.

DAF Day is an opportunity to celebrate one of the many ways to give and inspire even more generosity – a national, collective effort across donors, charities, advisors, and DAF providers.

If you have a donor-advised fund, please consider recommending a grant to PRHC Foundation and help keep world-class care close to home.
