Peterborough Regional Health Centre is growing and evolving. With over 1,600 nurses now on staff and 250 new recruits in the past year alone, PRHC is focused on building a strong, supported team ready to meet the healthcare needs of our region.
At the heart of that growth are experienced professionals like Intensive Care Unit registered nurse Emma Harris. With 16 years of critical care experience, Emma has played a key role in creating a stronger, more connected workplace through the development of a Peer Support program that’s changing how staff recover from difficult moments on the job. This innovative program earned Emma a PRHC Foundation Nursing Innovation Award at PRHC’s inaugural Nursing Symposium this spring.
In the sixth episode of Heart of Healthcare, PRHC Foundation President & CEO, Lesley Heighway, catches up with Emma out in our community at the Canadian Canoe Museum to hear more about her work as a nurse and learn how it’s part of a broader commitment to innovation, leadership, and compassionate care at PRHC. With support from donors through the PRHC Foundation Nursing Innovation Awards and the funding of hospital equipment, programs like this are making a real difference and helping shape the future of healthcare in our region.
