Len Powers grew up in Peterborough chasing pucks and dodging lacrosse sticks. On the ice or on the floor, he was fearless. Len says, “I never had any fear during my sporting career. But cancer brought fear into my life.”
A biopsy at Peterborough Regional Health Centre confirmed Len had prostate cancer. Len remembers the anxiety of waiting for test results, thinking, “Will I be okay? How long will I have to wait for answers? What happens next?”
Receiving that information was a relief. Then there was a plan… and hope. He’s grateful he could receive his radiation treatment close to home at the Health Centre, without the added worry of travelling away from family at a stressful time.
But one thing has stayed with him: the anxiety of that wait for answers. That’s why Len believes strongly in what the PRHC Foundation is raising funds for right now. He wants to help bring state-of-the-art digital pathology to our region.
This advanced lab technology will mean PRHC’s pathologists will be able to process lab tests quicker, getting faster, more accurate diagnoses to doctors and patients like Len, so they can begin lifesaving treatment sooner.
The government doesn’t fund hospital equipment, so donor support is vital. With your help, we can bring cutting-edge digital pathology to your regional hospital and reduce the agonizing wait for thousands of patients like Len.
Watch Len’s story for a powerful reminder of why this $2.5 million investment matters and how, together, we can help bring it to PRHC for the first time.
